Friday – Track day/testing
Once at the circuit an bike unloaded and the garage for the weekend setup it was time for Sean and Hazel to take to the circuit aboard the R6. Each rider circulated in all sessions with no problems reported. Towards the final session in weather conditions which were wet but with a drying line Hazel low sided the bike at the entrance to Corham. This was an unexpected crash for both the rider and the team.
Great work by all involved at the track side ensured that the bike was in a position to qualify and race for the remaining 2 days of the meeting. It was discovered after the race that some parts were a little more damaged than first thought. It didn't stop the team racing and finishing after 6 hours of racing on sunday.
Saturday - Practice & Qualifying
The team started out from about 6am on Saturday Morning, ensuring that the bits that needed to be finished were done so in time for testing during the saturday morning track day organised by Hottrax. The riders felt Ok on the bike following the repairs made by the Pit Crew and were happy with the bike during the afternoon.
The riders put the bike in a good qualifying position, just behind the Supersport engine R6's on the grid.
Sunday - Race day
At 8:30am the weather was cold, cloudy and raining. It was different day compared to Saturday. The manager kept spirits high by informing the team that a forecast had predicted no further rain in the afternoon.
At the race start time 11:55, Gary Jones competing in his fist national race from the drop of flag with Haze holding the bike. Garry lost only 2 places in the first lap and lapped consistently before pitting after 45 minutes. After fuelling Sean went out to complete a 65mins session as Team Moores had crashed their brand new 2008 R6. This moved the team from 5th in class to 4th. The team remained in this position for anther 4 hours, catching team Phoenix all the time. The gap was down to only 0.3s before a quick splash and dash was required to complete the race. Haze went out for the final stint returning to the pits 1 lap latter as a bolt had come loose on the gear change selector rod. The pit team completed the work, however this lead to the chance to overtake Phoenix and a podium position had been lost.
However Best Choice Endurance continued until 6pm, race finish, where the bike was parked up in “Parc Ferme”. All the team gathered to enjoy a small bottle of beer to celebrate a fantastic job completed by all members of the team. The team felt very pleased to get 13 points from their first ever National Endurance race. A haul of 14 points from the first of 7 rounds was a great achievement.
